No Motor: You have the option to source your own motor or use a motor you already have.

Note:

Please note that Brodbeck Ironworks will not be responsible for providing customer service or warranty support for motors and VFD purchased from another vendor.

Single Speed 1.5 HP: Works with 110V single phase (household voltage), with On / Off Switch.

Note:

Please note a single speed motor limits the attachments the grinder can support to the Mareko Flat Platen, Small Wheel Attachment, and Large Contact Wheels.

Variable Speed 1HP: Works with 110V or 220V single phase voltage. The variable speed control KBAC 24 VFD, includes wiring kit and start/stop switch.

Note:

Please note the Waterfall Platen cannot be used with a 1 HP variable speed motor.

Variable Speed 2HP: Works with 110V / 115V or 220V / 230V single phase voltage. The variable speed control KBAC 27D includes the wiring kit and start/stop switch. The motor is a 2HP 230/460V 3-Phase 60 HZ 6.2/2.9A 3600 RPM TEFC.

Notes:

The variable speed control also serves as a phase converter needed to operate the 2HP 3 phase motor included in the package. YOU DO NOT NEED 3 PHASE VOLTAGE IN YOUR SHOP.

Powering the unit with 110V / 115V reduces motor output from 2HP to 1.5HP

Variable Speed 3HP: Works with 220V single phase only. The variable speed control KBAC 29 includes wiring kit and start/stop switch.

Bolt Together Kit or Powder Coated & Assembled:

Bolt Together Kit: Our bolt together kit arrives unpainted and unassembled. Grinder can be assembled approximately 2-3 hours going causally. Painting or finishing times will vary. Please keep the number of coats between 1 and 3 for easy assembly. VFD and/or Motor will arrive separately will need to be wired with instructions found here.

Powder Coated & Assembled: These grinders are powder coated, zinc plated, assembled, and tuned in our shop. Minimal final assembly is required due to transportation limitations. The required assembly consist of securing the motor, installing the drive wheel and tracking wheel. The installation should take no more than 10-20 min.

Notes:

VFD and/or Motor will arrive separately and will be pre-wired and only need to be mounted. (1HP and 2HP VFD motor options will be wired to 110V unless otherwise requested.

Changing the input voltage from 110V to 220V is simple. Move the J1 jumper inside the variable speed control from the 115V position to the 230V position (this is how the ports are labeled) and provide your own 220 plug that matches your outlet.

Please contact us to verify instructions on 220V wiring before plugging your controller.

INCLUDED ATTACHMENTS;

Contact Wheel:

10” Diameter Contact Wheel, Bracket, Arm, and Hardware.

Used for the fastest general material removal and for hollow ground bevels, and handle shaping.

Small Wheel Kit:

Small Wheel Bracket, 3/4” Wheel, 1” Wheel, 2” Guide Wheel, and Hardware

Used for small radius curves, texturing, and cleaning the spine and the handle's underside. The rubber coated wheels eliminate the belt bump and provide a smooth and even finish.

Mareko Deep Platen

The Mareko Deep Platen is a combination of a flat platen, 4” contact wheel, and slack belt. It was designed by knifemaker Mareko Maumasi to provide maximum value and efficiency as it minimizes tool changes. The extra depth allows the user to work both sides of the platen without the tool arm interfering with the work. This is particularly important when removing stock and when contouring handles. This platen is a great alternative and cost reduction to having a dedicated flat platen and a contact wheel.

Adjustable Work Rest

The adjustable Work rest has been designed for maximum tilting in both directions as well as height adjustability. It is great for cutting false edges, bevels, clip points, octagonal handles, and fullers with our fullering tool. The work rest is constructed of 5/16 and 3/8 thick plate steel to ensure durability and stability. The double pinch design was chosen to eliminate accidental rotation typically observed with other adjustable tool rest designs that use a round bar and set screws for adjustment. The adjustment handles also allow full adjustment without the need of tools for ease of use and maximum efficiency.

NO welding is required for assembly.

Belts not included.
